Russian Girlfriends return with new material that sharpens their blend of melodic punk urgency and heavy, alt-leaning grit. Reunited with original singer Adam Hooks,

Russian Girlfriends formed in 2014 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when longtime scene players Colin Dowell (guitar), Ian Jarrell (guitar), Jeremy Keith (bass), Adam Hooks (vocals), and Sasha Horn (drums) came together around loud guitars, melodic hooks, and a no-nonsense punk-rooted rock sound.

The band self-released their debut full-length All Around in 2015, selling hundreds of copies directly at shows while touring nationally and building a reputation as a relentless live band. Momentum carried into their second LP, In the Parlance of Our Times (2019), a harder-hitting and more ambitious record that blended fast punk riffs with big melodic instincts and sharp social undercurrents.

Following touring cycles and lineup changes, Russian Girlfriends continued evolving sonically, releasing a heavier self-titled EP during the pandemic years that pushed the band toward more aggressive arrangements and expanded vocal approaches. Rather than slowing down creatively, the members stayed active across multiple projects.

Frontman Adam Hooks spent several years developing his alt-Americana project Hooks & The Huckleberries, releasing records and touring nationally, including appearances tied to SXSW, sharpening his songwriting and front-of-stage presence. At the same time, Dowell and Jarrell explored heavier territory with Night Child, a high-energy desert-rock and metal hybrid that reconnected them with their hardest influences. Drummer JR Willoughby, who powered Night Child’s live shows, now anchors Russian Girlfriends behind the kit.

Now reunited with Hooks and newly solidified with Willoughby, the current lineup of Hooks, Dowell, Jarrell, Keith, and Willoughby brings together every chapter of the band’s evolution. The result is a sharper, heavier, and more confident version of Russian Girlfriends, combining the urgency of their early punk roots with the depth and musicianship earned from a decade of writing, touring, and side-project exploration.

Russian Girlfriends have toured extensively across North America and Europe, sharing stages with acts such as Red City Radio, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Bombpops, PEARS, and Flatfoot 56, and appearing at festivals including The Fest and La Escalera Fest. With new music underway and renewed momentum, the band is focused on writing, touring, and reconnecting with audiences who’ve grown alongside them.
